Why net par matters

Play your course, not the pros' course.

Raw par is calibrated for a scratch player. Net par adapts each hole to your actual level and changes the way you play your round.

1

A realistic goal on every hole

On holes where you get a stroke, your real target is bogey, not par. You play against yourself, not against an unreachable standard, and you finish without feeling like you blew the round.

2

Strategy instead of survival

Knowing which holes give you +1 or +2 tells you where to take risks and where to play safe. On a par 4 with +1, aiming for green in 3 and 2 putts for a bogey is a net par: no need to attack.

3

A real measure of progress

Comparing a 92 on a slope-130 course to an 88 on a slope-110 course is meaningless. Your net score tells you whether you played the day's course well, regardless of its difficulty.
